报告题目：Empowering learners: shifting the focus in a Polymer Chemistry module from the teacher to the students: overcoming resistance from both the front and the back of the classroom.

报告简介：There is increasing pressure on universities to improve the quality of their teaching approaches and the learning environment for students. Student-centred teaching, also called “flipped-classroom” approaches are gaining momentum. However, this shift of focus from teacher to student is not straightforward as students, academics and institutions are used to lectures where the focus is on the teacher, especially in Science and Engineering degrees where there is a lot of “facts” and concepts that need to be taught and assessed. Resistance to this shift comes naturally to students, academics and institutions alike. Students feel exposed, academics feel they may lose control of the teaching process and the learning outcomes and institutions have immense pressure from competition and external evaluation. I will present my experience of successfully implementing a student-centred approach in a Polymer Chemistry module and strategies to deal with resistance to this shift. The exams results in this module improved dramatically, as a consequence of the shift.
报告人简介：Gabriel Cavalli是伦敦玛丽女王大学工程与材料学院副教授，在高分子合成、纳米医学、多聚蛋白和肽共轭聚合物领域有丰富的研究经验。与此同时，在教学方面，他对“翻转课堂”和以学生为中心的教学方法也有所研究。Cavalli博士在帝国理工学院高分子化学及有机化学专业拿到博士学位，师从Joachim Steinke博士；之后在英国南安普顿大学作博士后，并与2017年来到伦敦玛丽女王大学任教。
