Rematch of the First “QMEStar” English Speech Contest Was Successfully Held in QMES

Following the new year, on January 2nd, 2018, Queen Mary University of London Engineering School, NPU (QMES) held a rematch of the first “QMEStar” English Speech Contest. After two weeks’ audition, 40 candidates were elected to joint the rematch. Since the title of this speech contest is “Where I will be in 2035”, these candidates brought a speech feast based on their understandings of spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China for the audiences by elaborating their dreams and expectations for the future.  

Vice Dean Chen Jun, Education Manager Qi Yue, Deputy Director of Teaching Affairs Office Yang Ye, Li Yuanting of General Affairs Office were invited as judges for the rematch.

The rematch was held in two lecture rooms, 404 and 408 of East Teaching Building B. Both rooms were full of audiences. Candidates impressed the judges and audiences with humorous expressions, distinctive thoughts, optimistic spirit and confident performance. The contests were proceeded in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Li Zhuo’er from Class 5 of Materials Science and Engineering started her speech from her expectation towards life, career and mental state in 2035 and further expressed her considerations on the meaning of family and life. She called on all of her peers to work hard so as to make 2035 a better future.

Shi Boning from Class 3 of Polymer Materials and Engineering made an instance of the achievements that Kobe Bryant and Albert Einstein had made at their 36 at the beginning of his speech. Based on the aim that President Xi advocated in the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, he said that he would like to work as a specialist in materials science in 2035.

Zhou Zeyu from Class 2 of Materials Science and Engineering dreamed to be an educationalist to devote himself in education internationalization. He emphasized both on Chinese education feature and international comparison to improve China’s soft power and make it into a powerful country in education in 2035.

After the contest, Chen Jun made a summary on the rematch by firstly convincing the candidates of their good performance. He pointed out that through the contest, candidates showed what they learned from the report of 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, as well as periodic success of QMES’s cultivation mode. He encouraged successful candidates to fully prepare for the final contest.

New year brings us new hope while new start comes with new dreams and new journey endows us new missions. Let us work hard and march forward with the hope to make 2035 a better future.
