QMES Held a Collective Lesson Preparation Meeting for Teachers

In order to promote the ideological and political construction of the curriculum, deepen the reform of classroom teaching, build the first-class curriculum, and implement the fundamental task of cultivating people through moral education, QMES held a collective lesson preparation meeting for the spring semester of 2021 in XA407 West Teaching Building, Youyi Campus on April 2nd, 2021, which was presided over by Fan Xiaoli, Vice Dean of QMES.Professor Zhang Chengyu, Professor Wang Jun, Associate Professor Liu Changyou, Associate Professor Song Lin and Associate Professor He Yixuan from School of Materials Science and Engineering; Professor Chen Xiaopeng from School of Marine Science and Technology; Professor Zhang Juan from School of Mechanics, Civil Engineering and Architecture; Professor Zheng Hongchan from School of Mathematics and Statistics; and Associate Professor Zhang Biao from Institute of Flexible Electronics attended this collective lesson preparation meeting.

First of all, all teachers studied theAction Plan for Cultivating First-class Undergraduate Talents of Northwestern Polytechnical Universityled by Fan Xiaoli.Combined with the talent training system and mode of QMES as well as the reform of education and teaching, the participating teachers sorted out and discussed the teaching work of QMES based on 30 key tasks in 7 fields, including the general requirements of the action plan,the persistence to moral education, the reform of talent training mode, the intensification of the guidance and evaluation for students,the construction of high-level teaching team,the creation of first-class educational and teaching resources, the building of an open and collaborative education pattern and the improvement of organization and leadership.

In the second part of this meeting, the teachers discussed the topic of “Thoughts and Design of Teaching in the Post-epidemic Era”.Professor Zhang Juan shared with the participating teachers the experience of the curriculum design and classroom teaching of “Mechanical Modelling” combining online and offline method.Looking back at the early stage of the epidemic, with the help of Teacher Mr. Zhao Bin, she actively responded to the online teaching policy of NPU. They overcame all kinds of difficulties and built an all-English online module in a very short time. Meanwhile, she also gave constructive advices and suggestions on the ideas and methods of online module construction.Mr.Zhang Chengyu, who is in charge of the module “Fatigue and Creep Failure”, took practical problems encountered in the teaching process as an example and proposed that the effectiveness and standards of experiments should be set, and that the experimental data shall be given in advance and then distributed to each student, so as to ensure the teaching effect and create more practical opportunities for students.

Mr.Song Lin, teacher of “Metal 2:Alloy Systems and Heat Treatment”, put forward that teachers could better integrate into students and improve teaching effect by stepping off the stage and getting closer to students during the teaching process.He also adopts students’ reasonable opinions and suggestions in his teaching practice and constantly improve the teaching methods. Mr.Chen Xiaopeng, teacher ofThermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics; Mr. Liu Changyou, teacher ofThermodynamics and Phase Transformations; Mr. Wang Jun, teacher ofMetal 2: Alloy System and Heat Treatment; and Mrs. Zheng Hongchan, teacher ofAdvanced Maths, gave feedback on the academic performance, attendance, and classroom interaction of students and put forward corresponding suggestions for them respectively.Finally, Mrs. Fan Xiaoli explained the construction policy of All-English modules of QMES, including the model curriculum of “Ideological and Political Education in all Modules” and the first-class undergraduate curriculum program. She also encouraged all the teachers to make full use of the teaching resources of QMES and actively carry out the classroom teaching reform.

This collective lesson preparation meeting has not only deepened the teaching discussion and exchange among the modules, enhanced the enthusiasm of teachers to carry out educational and teaching research as well as in-depth teaching reform and practice, but also been an important measure to implement theAction Plan for Cultivating First-class Undergraduate Talents of Northwestern Polytechnical Universityand to improve the effectiveness of cultivating people through moral education and the quality of talent training of QMES.
