QMES Held the Undergraduate Graduation Ceremony and the British Degree Awarding Ceremony for 2021 Graduates

On June 21, QMES held the Undergraduate Graduation Ceremony and the British Degree Awarding Ceremony for 2021 graduates. Colin Bailey, President of Queen Mary University of London; Wan Xiaopeng, Deputy Secretary of NPU Party Committee and Chair of the Joint Administrative Committee (JAC); Wang Wen, Vice Principal of QMUL and Vice Chair of JAC; Colin Grant, Vice Principal of QMUL; JAC member and Vice Chief Accountant of NPU; JAC member and Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering of NPU; Director of Development and Planning Department of NPU; Deputy Directors of International Cooperation Office of NPU; Secretary General and Deputy Secretary-General of NPU Education Foundation; Party Secretary of School of Materials Science and Engineering of NPU; Dean of School of Mathematics and Statistics of NPU; Vice Dean of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of NPU; and all the faculty and staff of QMES attended this graduation ceremony simultaneously in Xi’an and London. The ceremony was presided over by Kong Jie, Dean of QMES.

First of all, on behalf of NPU Party Committee Secretary Zhang Wei and NPU President Wang Jinsong, Wan Xiaopeng extended his sincere congratulations and best wishes to the students who had successfully completed their undergraduate study. At the time of parting, he put forward three hopes for the graduates: first, he hoped they would cultivate a strong sense of family and country, and combine their personal development with the needs of the country; second, he hoped they could always maintain the spirit of forging ahead and overcoming difficulties; and third, he hoped they would always insist the spirit of being upright and innovative, and give full play to the pioneering spirit in the different positions and fields.

In his graduation speech, Colin Bailey said that with the joint efforts of QMUL and NPU, the graduates of QMES acquired the essence of higher education both of China and the UK, and gained a unique international learning experience. The two universities are widely recognized around the world for their outstanding achievements in education and scientific research.

Under the recognition and blessing of both Chinese and British alma maters, Vice Dean Fan Xiaoli announced the list and degree level of the graduates. Under the witness of President Colin Bailey and Executive Vice Dean Andy Bushby, Dean Kong Jie distributed degree certificates to 220 graduates on behalf of QMUL. Dr. Deng Xinru, on behalf of QMES, issued exclusive commemorative seals to the graduates.

Wang Tingyi gave a speech as the representative of graduates: No matter how our four years passed, we do not need to complain and regret at this moment, because tomorrow we will embark on a new journey. Although we may not know where our perfect end is, every step we take will bring us closer to where we want to be. Whether we are going to work or continue to study, NPU and QMUL can provide an unparalleled stage that will always support us.”

At the teacher awarding session, Wan Xiaopeng and Zhang Jianxin presented certificates of excellent instructors and exclusive commemorative seals to Gu Junwei, Yan Yi and other six teachers, in order to thank them for their important contributions to the cultivation of the 2021 graduates.

In the end, Dean Kong Jie noted that the 2021 graduates were undoubtedly of special significance to QMES, and they are participants, contributors and witnesses of the construction and development of QMES. NPU, QMUL and QMES will always pay attention to the growth of these graduates and provide as much support and assistance as possible for their development.
