QMES 2022 Graduate Zhang Yuxiang Received Full Scholarship Direct Doctoral Offers of World-renowned Universities

Zhang Yuxiang, a 2018 undergraduate student majoring in polymer materials and engineering of QMES, recently successfully received offers from 6 world-class universities, including National University of Singapore (Full Scholarship for Doctorate), University of Cambridge, ETH Zurich Switzerland, Imperial College London, University College London, and University of Manchester.

She had excellent academic performance and won the National Scholarship for two consecutive years in her sophomore and junior years and honorary titles such as “Star of Innovation and Entrepreneurship” and “Star of Science and Technology” of NPU. She also served as the Minister of External Relations of the International Students’ Federation, and participated in a number of scientific research and innovation projects, including various innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, such as “Challenge Cup” and “Internet +”. She won the Gold Award of Shaanxi Province of “Challenge Cup”, two International Bronze Awards for “Internet +”, National Bronze Award for “Challenge Cup” and the first prize for “AAMS Cup” competition, etc.

Since she set the goal of studying abroad at the first beginning of her college year, she worked hard to lay a solid foundation on professional knowledge and improved scientific research capabilities, which led to a continuous increase of her academic performance during the four-year undergraduate period. In 2020, under the guidance of Professor Kong Jie, she led a team of undergraduates whose project won the Gold Award of Shaanxi Province of “Challenge Cup” on the topic of “Research on the Photocurable 3D PrintingCeramic Precursor Polysilazaneand Its Absorbing Properties”.After that, she continued to carry out in-depth research on 3D printing alumina ceramics, and applied for one Chinese invention patent as the first inventor which had been successfully authorized. She also presided over one national innovation training project as the project leader and got a good conclusion of it, and participated in one national entrepreneurial practice project as a core member.

In addition to working hard in the laboratory, she also visited more than ten military industrial enterprises and national scientific research institutes to conduct market research and business roadshows to learn new models of the combination of technology research and market, which provided a great help for her excellent performance in national and international innovation and entrepreneurship competitions.

What’s more, she actively participated in the online scientific research project of a professor’s research group of Cambridge University, and initially studied the concepts of nanomaterials, biofunctional nanomaterials, DNA nanotechnology and nanopharmaceuticals. Then she made reports on related topics and got the highest score in the group. At the same time, under the professor’s guidance, she also completed the literature review related to bio-nanotechnology and successfully published the article.

Regarding to career development planning, she said:“It should be made as soon as possible and as clear as you can. The four years at QMES was like a long-distance race for me, for I had been working hard towards my goal all the time. Great thanks to QMES, and to all the people who have supported and helped me, including my professors, teachers, classmates and friends who helps me to transformed me to a better self”. Finally, she wished everyone could receive a satisfying offer!
