Representatives of Engineering Training Center Visited QMES for Investigation

On the morning of May 7, 2022, 12 representatives of Engineering Training Center came to QMES to conduct research on talent training work, including Jiang Jianjun, Director of Engineering Training Center; Liang Yuke and Ma Yue, Deputy Directors of Engineering Training Center and other faculty members. Presided over by Fan Xiaoli, Dean of QMES, the meeting also invited Wan Xiaopeng, Deputy Secretary of the NPU Party Committee, Dai Fuping, Secretary of QMES Party Committee, and Cheng Yin, Deputy Secretary of QMES Party Committee and other staff members.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dai Fuping, on behalf of QMES, extended a warm welcome to the representatives from Engineering Training Center and then introduced the participants from QMES. Fan Xiaoli introduced the characteristic talent training mode, the curriculum and student development in detail, referring to the implementation of the Action Plans for Cultivating First-class Undergraduate Talents of NPU and the conception of talent training work. She said that although the pandemic had exerted an unfavorable impact on the teaching work and students’ career planning, QMES would overcome difficulties with innovative measures, improve the curriculum setting, promote the international faculty self-construction, so that we could keep a sound development. Jiang Jianjun introduced the reform of the education system of the Engineering Training Center by focusing on the experimental teaching base, the curriculum and plans for students’ quality development. He hoped that by virtue of characteristic courses, innovative activities and the combination of theories and practice, talent training work and students’ ability of innovation and entrepreneurship can be improved. Later on, the participants had an in-depth exchange on the adjustment of the basic components of courses, activities to strengthen students’ quality, the improvement of publicity work, the construction of laboratories, the sharing of teacher resources, the joint Party construction and the working coordination between QMES and the Engineering Training Center.

At the end of the meeting, Wan Xiaopeng, Deputy Secretary of the NPU Party Committee, gave constructive suggestions based on the actual condition of the two institutions. He stressed the importance of cultivating students’ ability to integrate theory into practice. He suggested that the Engineering Training Center should further clarify their targets and adjust the practice courses by holding the principle of balance. At the same time, he pointed out that QMES should make full use of the platform resources, gear up for the next stage, optimize the curriculum and improve the discipline construction, laying a solid foundation for its innovative development.

Both parts considered this meeting fruitful, and showed determination to implement the above-mentioned plans and contribute to the smooth running of talent training work.
