      Teresa is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering. She obtained her bachelors and masters degrees from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in Mexico and her doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from UMIST. Following this she worked as a Research Associate and then Research Fellow in the Mechanical Engineering Department at UMIST. In 2012 she was appointed Professor at the University of Manchester. She has a number of years of industrial experience including in the construction, water and petroleum industries. Professor Alonso-Rasgado has undertaken research in the areas of biomechanics, orthopaedic engineering, mathematical modelling, numerical techniques, total care product design, reliability and risk and has published over 100 journal and international conference papers to date. Teresa previously lead the very successful Bioengineering and Reliability and Maintainability Research Groups in Manchester.Teresa was the Honorary Representative of the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (CONACYT) in the UK (2010 to 2018) and is an Ohtli Award holder, the highest recognition that a citizen of Mexico living overseas can receive from the Mexican state. Professor Alonso-Rasgado was previously the Director of the Latin American Postgraduate Programme (LAPP) at the University of Manchester.
