QMES successfully held “Cambridge University Study Abroad Experience Sharing Session”

In order to enhance students’ enthusiasm for studying abroad and to further clarify their goals and plan their careers, on the morning of September 18th, QMES held a “Cambridge University Study Abroad Experience Sharing Session” in room 206 of the East Teaching Building Block A. This sharing invited an outstanding alumnus of the school in 2018, Lu Chuyao, a Ph.D. student at the University of Cambridge, to share her life and learning experience. She also answered questions and communicated with the younger students to provide guidance and exchange.

Lu Chuyao first shared her undergraduate learning experiences and offered academic planning advice to students. In the first year, she emphasized the importance of laying a solid foundation and cultivating interests. In the second year, she encouraged students to excel in their major courses and engage in research activities. In the third year, she advised participation in innovation, entrepreneurship, academic competitions, and language proficiency exams. In the fourth year, she suggested applying to target universities while completing the graduation project. Afterward, Lu Chuyao shared her experience in applying for master’s and doctoral programs at the University of Cambridge, focusing on study abroad planning, background enhancement, essay writing techniques, and application procedures. She particularly emphasized the gathering of information about the target universities and provided tips for the IELTS exam.

After the sharing, Lu Chuyao interacted with students who had relevant interests on-site, enthusiastically answering their questions. She encouraged fellows to make good academic plans, set long-term goals, and continuously broaden their international perspectives.

The successful organization of this session has provided abundant practical experiences for students, fully leveraging the exemplary guidance of outstanding students. It has also provided guidance and direction for students interested in furthering their education, creating a strong learning atmosphere and effectively promoting the improvement of our school’s effectiveness in guiding further studies and the cultivation of a good academic atmosphere.

It is reported that more than 280 graduates from QMES have continued their further studies in prestigious institutions across 13 countries and regions. The school will continue to explore new paths for high-quality talent development and cultivate more innovative talents with international perspectives.

Introduction to Lu Chuyao

Lu Chuyao, born in Xi'an, Shaanxi, is a graduate of the 2022 Polymer Materials and Engineering program from QMES, NPU. In 2019, she joined the SFPC research group to participate in the undergraduate innovation and entrepreneurship training program. She was awarded the first prize in the “Guangwei Cup”-The 5th CSCM Science & Technology Innovation Competition for College Students in 2020 (only 2 winners nationwide); the second prize in the 2020 “Belt and Road” and BRICS Skills Development and Technical Innovation Competition; the silver prize in the 10th “Challenge Cup” Shaanxi Provincial China College Student Entrepreneurship Plan Competition. She won the first-class Scholarship of “School Outstanding students” in the academic year 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. She has co-authored two SCI papers published in Compos Part B-Eng and Research. In 2022, she went to Cambridge University in the UK to pursue a master’s program in Micro and Nanotechnology. After completing her master’s degree, she will continue her doctoral program at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, starting in October 2023.
