QMES Held the Teaching Work Conference for the Autumn Semester of the 2023-2024 Academic year

To convey the spirit of the 2023 Summer Work Seminar and the Cadres Conference for the New Semester, promote the smooth implementation of teaching affairs in the new semester, and further enhance the quality of education in QMES, on September 14, 2023, the Teaching Affairs Meeting for the Autumn Semester 2023-2024 Academic Year was held in Room XA303, West Teaching Building, Youyi Campus, NPU. The meeting was hold both online and face to face. Fan Xiaoli, the Dean of QMES, along with 16 teaching faculty members including Liu Jianxi, Zhang Juan, Yan Yi, Shi Xuetao, Yan Qilong, Liu Zhe, Chen Yanhui, Li Xiaolin, Lai Minjie, He Yixuan, Jiao Jian, Chen Xiaopeng, Wei Bingyan, as well as Yang Ye, the Director of the Teaching Affairs Office, and all the staff from Teaching Affairs Office attended the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by Fan Xiaoli, who first conveyed the spirit of the 2023 Summer Work Seminar and Cadres Conference for the New Semester to the teachers. Based on the relevant issues raised during the undergraduate education review and evaluation, she outlined key tasks for this semester, including management of teaching files, innovation and entrepreneurship projects for students, diversified evaluation of teaching quality, and international exchanges for teachers. Fan Xiaoli approved the achievements of QMES as JEI and expressed gratitude to all the teaching faculty for their hard work.

Yang Ye, the Director of the Teaching Affairs Office, reported on the self-assessment and progress of the review and evaluation. Currently, the self-assessment report, teaching file self-inspection, revision of teaching administration, strengthening of quality monitoring in the teaching process, revision and review of education plans, and other related work have been initiated. Based on the identified issues, the next steps for improvement will focus on areas such as examination papers and grading, course grade ratio, classroom teaching, improvement of final year project quality, and teaching documentation.

Liu Kejia provided a detailed report on the teaching plan and file self-inspection work of the school. Ding Jing introduced the specific processes of undergraduate innovation and entrepreneurship projects, student internships, and scientific research practices. Other staff also introduced the development and management of courses and textbooks of QMES, the process of laboratory borrowing, safety precautions for using experimental instruments, the process and timeline of undergraduate final year project, topic selection, and teaching supervision work.

Then, the teachers who participated in the exchange and training in QMUL during summer vacation discussed in-depth about innovative teaching methods, student assessment approaches, evaluation methods for teaching achievements, and enhancing students’ proactive learning. Lai Minjie expressed that the in-depth research conducted by the QMUL teachers in teaching is worth learning. Zhang Juan stated that the teaching approach of having two teachers take turns to deliver a lesson is beneficial for stimulating students’ learning vitality, and it is a new teaching model worth trying. Liu Zhe and He Yixuan shared their own views on innovative teaching methods and assessment approaches based on their experiences. Liu Jianxi believed that the significance of communication outweighs training and is very helpful for teachers to broaden their perspectives. Chen Xiaopeng shared his training experience at the University of Oxford with everyone. The teachers actively exchanged ideas and engaged in enthusiastic discussions.

At the end of the meeting, Fan Xiaoli expressed that the implementation of various tasks in QMES requires the active cooperation of all teaching faculty members. She sincerely thanked all the teachers for their contributions to the teaching work of the school. QMES will further enhance relevant teaching resources, provide more opportunities for overseas exchanges, continuously promote teaching mode reforms, and give full play to the leading role of JEI.
