QMES Visited Chinese-foreign Cooperative Schools of Higher Education in Sichuan

On April 12, 2023, 9 members of QMES, including Dean Fan Xiaoli; Dai Fuping, Secretary of the QMES Party Committee; and Vice Dean Cheng Yin, went to Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) and Glasgow College of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) for research and exchange, so as to further study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, actively respond to the important instructions of the CPC Central Committee in the investigation and research of the whole Party, contribute to the NPU’s construction of the world-class university and first-class disciplines, and promote the high-quality development of Chinese-foreign cooperative education and talent training of the school.

On the morning of April 12, Mai Chengzhi, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs; Li Ye, Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Secretary of the Party Branch of SCUPI; and Tang Wei, Chief Executive Officer of SCUPI had discussions with the team from QMES. At the meeting, Mai Chengzhi first extended a warm welcome to the visitors from QMES, and briefly introduced the history, faculty, training mode and graduates’ development of SCUPI. Subsequently, the two sides had in-depth exchanges on Party building and ideological and political curriculum, teacher training, financial system and enrollment, and actively shared successful experience and characteristic practices, providing new ideas and methods for the Chinese-foreign cooperation in education and talent training. After the meeting, the team also visited the offices and teaching buildings and appreciated the cultural construction of SCUPI. Fan Xiaoli said that Sichuan University, with its profound history and strong strength, was a pioneer in practising educational opening-up, integrating excellent educational resources from home and abroad, and innovating talent training mode. QMES will, base on its own development needs, draw on prized experience and make every effort to boost talent training to a new level.

On the afternoon of April 12, Di Aiying, Party Secretary and Vice Dean of Glasgow College, UESTC; Dean Zhu Ce; Li Ye, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; Xu Shizhong, Vice Dean and Director of Student Affairs Center; and 5 Deputy Directors of Student Affairs Center in charge of teaching, students, practice teaching and international exchange met the team. At the meeting, Di Aiying and Zhu Ce first warmly welcomed the visitors, and introduced the organizational structure, major setting, talent training system, international faculty construction, enrollment and graduates’ development of Glasgow College. On behalf of QMES, Fan Xiaoli expressed gratitude to the college for its warm reception and experience sharing. She also briefly introduced the development status, institutional setup, teaching staff, teaching system, and students’ further study and development of QMES. Dai Fuping introduced the Party building, Branch construction and development of student Party members of QMES. Subsequently, the two sides conducted enthusiastic communication on faculty construction, student practice, school-enterprise cooperation, enrollment and further study. Dai Fuping pointed out that the Party building of Glasgow College featured various forms and remarkable results, which fully epitomized the Chinese-foreign cooperative talent-training model with Chinese socialist characteristics. Fan Xiaoli said that Glasgow College and QMES have many similarities in the founding background, and the advanced experience and characteristic practices of Glasgow College in the field of Chinese-foreign cooperative education have provided significant reference value for QMES. The two sides should deepen and expand the forms and fields of cooperation and exchange, work together to make progress, and cultivate more top-notch innovative talents with international vision and keeping their country in mind.

Field research is the source of insights. The visits have deepened the exchanges with other outstanding brotherly Chinese-foreign cooperative schools, and clarified the direction and path for reform and innovation, and the quality and efficiency improvement of the school. According to its own development needs, QMES will learn from the colleges and propose more scientific measures, so as to comprehensively improve the quality of talent training and accelerate the construction of NPU’s Double First-class Initiative.
