“Join Hands with the World and Let the Dreams Fly”—The Opening Ceremony for QMES 2021 Freshmen was Successfully Held

On the afternoon of August 30, 2021, QMES held an opening ceremony for 2021 new students at Ao’xiang Student Center, Chang’an Campus.

Dean Kong Jie firstly extended a warm welcome and congratulation to the freshmen of 2021 on behalf of all the staff members and students of QMES. Then, he introduced the disciplinary advantages, faculty strength, research platform of the school and the development of graduates in detail. Among the first batch of graduates, there were 110 students studying further at Cambridge University, Imperial College London, University College London, ETH Zurich, HEC Paris, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University andother world-class universities,and 70 students at Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other national top-class universities. He hoped that all the freshmen would model themselves on their excellent seniors, working hard, and reaping success.

Then, Executive Vice Dean Andrew Bushby introduced the innovative education concept and model of QMES. With the story ofJourney to the Westas the lead-in, he put forward his requirements and expectation for these new undergraduates: setting high ambitions, mastering professional knowledge, strengthening the sense of teamwork, developing an international vision, making full use of the advanced resources and research platforms of the two universities, and creating a promising future at QMES.

Xu Weihang from Cohort 2020 and Shi Zhao Xiaohan from Cohort 2021 delivered speeches as student representatives. According to his personal experience, Xu Weihang gave advice to the 2021 freshmen on college study and life, helping them to adapt to the new environment as soon as possible. Shi Zhao Xiaohan stated the responsibility as the youth of the times, showed the confidence in and determination of making achievements at QMES, and called on all the freshmen to advance together.
