QMES Held a Seminar on Online Exam Programme

QMES held a seminar on online exam programme through online meeting on the afternoon of January 26, 2022.Andy Bushby, Executive Vice Dean of QMES; Fan Xiaoli, Vice Dean in charge of teaching affairs of QMES; Gabriel Cavalli, Director of the International Center for Teaching and Learning; lectures and staff of Teaching Affairs Office on NPU and QMUL sides attended this seminar, which was presided over by Fan Xiaoli.

At the beginning of the meeting, Gabriel first introduced the principles that should be followed in designing online examination questions, and shared his experiences and suggestions on question creation.Taking his own module as an example, he compared the differences between traditional test questions and online test questions, and further analyzed the methods of designing online test questions in detail.Afterwards, the staff of Teaching Affairs Office of QMES introduced four types of online examination, and introduced the question types, exam process and their advantages and disadvantages respectively, so as to provide reference for lecturers to implement online examinations.At the end of the seminar, the participating lecturers discussed the methods and problems of online examination on both NPU and QMUL sides.

Fan Xiaoli stressed that examination and assessment was an important link to test students’ learning achievements and lecturers’ teaching effects.Along with the diversification of offline and online teaching methods, diversification of module assessment forms will be an important part of the reform of the teaching mode.In addition to the basic knowledge points, the main embodiment of the student-centered talent training mode of QMES is to scientifically design examination questions based on the teaching objectives and to truly test the application ability and speculative ability of students.The Teaching Affairs Office of QMES will keep in touch with all the lecturers to ensure that the postponed examinations can be carried out smoothly after the beginning of next semester.
