Call for Participation in the YPLC 2022 –Young Persons’ Lecture Competition 2022

“The IOM3 Young Persons’ Lecture Competition (YPLC) plays an important role in the UK and the world, it may equip the winners with an advantage favored by admission officers and professors of top universities in the UK. This contest is highly competitive that in Cambridgeshire, it is even initially competed within four geographical divisions” said Fan Juncheng, an outstanding graduate of the QMES cohort 2017, who won the 3rd in 2021 YPLC and is now studying at Cambridge University.

The IOM3 YPLC is an annually organised worldwide by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3). Since it was first held in 2005, the event has attracted attention from the international academic communities. The competition targets at university students and young scholars under 28 years old, covering topics including materials, minerals, mining, packaging, clay technology, wood science and engineering (the time limit for each speaker is 12 to 15 minutes).

In 2021, the IOM3 YPLC Chinese National Final was hosted by QMES. Fan Juncheng, a 2017 undergraduate student of the school, won the first prize in the Chinese National Final with his wonderful performance and went on to represent China in the global final of the IOM3 YPLC. Fan Juncheng, who currently pursues his study in Cambridge University, won the third place in the global final after navigating through the competition. His success was gloriously reported by the official websites of the University of Cambridge and Queen Mary University of London.

The IOM3 YPLC 2022 Chinese National Final will be held on 1stJune at the QMES, and the application is now open. The winner will compete in the world final on behalf of China. At the same time, the top 3 winners of the Chinese National Final will receive honorary certificates and cash prizes equivalent to 400, 200 and 100 GBP, respectively.

The IOM3 YPLC has the profound authority and great influence in the international fields, which can be described as "the stepping stone to world's top universities". The competition is an excellent opportunity to show the professional ability and English proficiency of participants, and the students who can secure a prize will stand out in the future job-hunting and application for further education.
