QMES Held a Forum of Global Partnership Week

On May 18, QMES held a forum of Global Partnership Week, in order to implement Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era, carry out the spirit of Central Talent Work Conference and develop NPU’s competitiveness, and global influence. Clare Burke, Director of International Cooperation Office of QMUL, Claire Canning, Manager of International Cooperation Office of QMUL and Tom Hewitt, Operation Director of QMUL attended the meeting. Presided over by Cheng Yin, Deputy Secretary of QMES Party Committee and Vice Dean of QMES, the meeting also invited teachers from School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Power and Energy, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Life Sciences and Medical Research Institute.

Firstly, Cheng Yin introduced the attendees and extended a warm welcome to the participants. Subsequently, Clare Burke made a comprehensive introduction of QMUL from aspects of its history, department setting, talent cultivation, competitive disciplines and current cooperation with NPU. Next, Professor Gao Feng briefly reported on the cooperation between School of Materials Science and Engineering and QMUL in scientific research and talent training, and achievements in NPU- QMUL Joint Research Institute for Advanced Materials and Structures. Chen Yanhui, Assistant to the Dean of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, introduced the school’s educational characteristics, teaching operation and teaching staff in detail. Sun Leming, Assistant to the Dean of School of Life Sciences, briefed the history, development and foreign exchange and cooperation of the school. Dai Liangliang, Assistant to the President of Medical Research Institute, introduced the establishment background of the institute and discipline development. Xu Shenren, Associate Professor of School of Power and Energy, gave a speech about the general situation of the school, and Professor Wang Dingxi gave a supplementary explanation on the academic characteristics of the school and the achievements of student training.

During the discussion and exchange session, participants spoke freely and interacted actively, sharing opinions on joint training of postgraduates and doctoral students, scientific research cooperation, discipline development, teacher training and so on. Clare Burke remarked that NPU featured a profound cooperation foundation with QMUL and rich experience in cooperative education. She hoped to explore potential communication opportunities with other departments of NPU to expand further the scope of cooperation and improve the level of cooperation.

After the meeting, targeting at the students of NPU, QMUL hosted online recruitment teach-in which touched upon application process of Master’s Degree and Doctoral Degree and scholarship policies. The teach-in attracted many students of NPU, contributing to their deep understanding of application process and policy towards British universities.

The forum was of great significance for deepening the educational cooperation in running schools, fostering construction of scientific research platform and advancing talent training. QMES will remain committed to driving educational cooperation, exploring new models of international talent cultivation, and making contribution to NPU’s talent cultivation strategy and educational opening-up.
