QMES Successfully Completed the Reception Work for 2022 Freshmen

On September 8th, full of expectations for the campus life, the class of 2022 freshmen registered at QMES where they would set off on a new journey. According to the work arrangement of the Youth League Committee and the Student Union of QMES, the volunteer service for new students in 2022 academic year had been well-planned. More than 80 seniors and over 10 freshmen participated in the activity with a sincere smile and warm action.

“School Ferrymen”—— volunteers transporting luggage

On the morning of September 8, more than 20 volunteers from QMES were waiting at the transfer spot. There, the volunteers enthusiastically took over the luggage of the new students whose uneasiness on the new environment has been dispelled by volunteers’ considerate behavior.

Volunteer Experience:

Tao Mujia: “Affected by the epidemic, parents of new students cannot enter the school gate to help them. As transfer volunteers, our main responsibility is to help new students send their luggage from the transfer spot to the dormitory, check in and so on.”

One Volunteer Serve One Freshman

The working mode of “One Volunteer Serving One Freshman” started from the summer holiday. From answering their doubts online to soothing their anxious mood when they learned that they would not be able to start school on time, the freshmen were deeply moved by the patient help of volunteers. On September 8, each volunteer accompanied one designated student from entering the school gate to registering and then to going to the dormitory. The attentive and thoughtful volunteer service won plaudits from the newcomers.

Volunteer Experience:

Shi Lingzi: “During the whole reception work, we warmly introduced university life to the freshmen, patiently answered their doubts and carried their luggage voluntarily.”

Volunteers Outside the School Building

Outside the West Teaching Building D, volunteers introduced the college's advanced educational philosophy and outstanding achievements to new students, guided them to sign on the signature board, and reminded them to take precautions against the epidemic. The reception work was proceeded in an orderly manner.

Volunteer Experience:

Shi Zhaoxiaohan: “I am very lucky to participate in the volunteer service. I take the initiative to help the freshmen, guiding the route, storing their luggage and answering their questions. Although the weather is sometimes rainy and sometimes hot, the volunteers are always trying to provide the most considerate service for the students from all over the country. Our work received a very positive response: more than 10 students from the class of 2022 volunteered to help new students carry their luggage and guide them to register. Parents, friends and college leaders also praised our work.”

Volunteers Inside the School Building

At 7 o 'clock on September 8th, in Room 201, West Teaching Building D, volunteers inside the school building made full preparations in advance. The volunteers carefully checked the information of the new students, carried out face recognition and verification registration, and distributed the school card, student handbook and personal epidemic prevention supplies and other gift packages for new students.

Volunteer Experience:

Wu Junwei: “As a sophomore, I participated in the volunteer work. I handled the registration formalities for the freshmen. Through registration in various forms, we have impressed new students with our thoughtful service.”

Freshman Volunteers

On September 8, there was also a group of new students of the class of 2022 dressed as volunteers inside the school building. After they arrived at the school in advance and finished the enrollment procedures, they participated in the volunteer service, explained the registration process to other new students, helped distribute materials and handled the registration materials. At the same time, the talented freshman volunteers also painted a beautiful board in their spare time to welcome the new students, which added special color to the registration scene.

Volunteer Experience:

Wang Tianxin: “As a new student of the class of 2022, the reception work was a wonderful experience which benefited me profoundly. Our main work included assisting new students in registering at the school, checking in at the dormitory, carrying luggage and so on.”

Wang Xinyan: “In this activity, I am honored to be a volunteer of the class of 2022. Our main work is to draw welcome board and help freshman with the registration procedure. We have drawn Xian Y-20, Chengdu J-20, Feitian-1 and other stick figures to show the characteristics of aviation, aerospace and navigation of NPU. I have reaped the benefits of the activity.”

College Leaders Visited the Freshmen

On the evening of September 9, Fan Xiaoli, Dean of QMES, Dai Fuping, Secretary of QMES Party Committee, Vice Dean Cheng Yin, Huang Quanzhang, Director of Student Affairs Office and student counselor Yuan Menglei visited the freshmen in their dormitory and extended their blessings at the time of Mid-Autumn Festival. While expressing a warm welcome to the freshmen, Fan Xiaoli was very concerned about the life and study conditions of the students after their arrival at the university. She asked the students in detail how they have adapted to the new life. She also hoped the freshmen could arrange their study and life reasonably and scientifically, cherish the university time and make a good career plan. The friendly and face-to-face communication from the college leaders demonstrated the student-centered concept of QMES, which also provided an effective way to better understand students' needs, solve students' difficulties and carry out student work.

Summary

Li Ziqian: “From designing publicity materials to determining the welcome plan, from releasing the recruitment notice to conducting volunteer training, from answering questions online to contacting freshmen offline, the working group has been committed to volunteer service with the utmost enthusiasm. A warm smiling face, a kind greeting and thoughtful service welcomed students all over the country. West Teaching Building D witnessed the hectic but orderly scene. Finally, the staff united to successfully completed the reception work for the 2022 freshmen with caring service.”
