Professor Fan Xiaoli, Dean of QMES, Associate Professor Gabriel Cavalli, Executive Vice Dean of QMUL, Professor Li Zhe, Director of the Examination Committee, External Review Expert Professor Sarah Green, Dr. Ian Hamerton and Dr. Jonathan Leader, and module convenor of this semester and staff of teaching affairs offices of both sides attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Professor Li Zhe.

The meeting summarized the final examination of various modules of students in the autumn semester of 2022-2023 academic year. The module conveners reported on the scoring standards and the distribution of scores respectively and answered questions from the external review experts. They also made an comparative analysis of student scores of 2022-2023 academic year with the student scores in the autumn semester of 2021-2022 academic year. The importance of experiments is highlighted in Advanced Polymer Chemistry this semester. Gabriel thought that the examination paper of this module is similar in difficulty to previous academic years, and the score distribution is more reasonable than in previous academic years. But he said he would continue to find more suitable ways to improve the distribution of experimental groups to improve students’ enthusiasm and practical innovation ability to participate in experiments. According to the teaching arrangement of NPU, some students of the Structural Characterisation module took the delayed examination this semester. Teacher Ma Xiao explained to the members of the examination committee the changes in the grade ratio, the content of the test paper, and the difficulty of the exam. Teachers of various modules have analyzed and explained the reasons for the changes in scores between this semester and the previous academic year. For example, teachers of General Physics and Functional Materials and other modules believed that online teaching has made a certain impact on real-time classroom practice and classroom interaction. External review experts suggested that appropriate teaching methods could be designed based on the actual situation in later teaching practice. The number of students who have passed the module of Metals I has increased compared to the previous academic year. Professor Zheng Zebang shared the review methods before the exam. He provided test papers of the previous three years for students to gain a better understanding of the exam format and difficulty. Teachers of other modules also made an analysis of scores and shared their experience.
