Focus on Poverty Alleviation, Present Multiculturalism and Enrich Extracurricular Life | Date with Apple Competition
At the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, General Secretaryof CPC Central CommitteeXi Jinping once again raised poverty alleviation to a new strategic height and put forward new ideas, new goals and new journeys for poverty alleviation. In the decisive period of building a well-off society in an all-round way, NPU resolutely implemented the requirements of the Party Central Committee and assisted Rongshui Miao Autonomous County in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Chenggu County in Shaanxi Province and Xianwang Village, Chongning Town, Linwei District in Weinan City during the 13th Five-Year Plan period. NPU dispatched a poverty alleviation team to fully mobilize the staff and students to carry out the plan.
On September 19, 2018, led by Chen Jun, Vice Dean of Queen Mary Engineering School (QMES) NPU, and Chen Chen, Director of Student Affairs Office, the "Wisdom Wave Social Practice Team " of QMES went to Xianwang Village, Chongning Town, Weinan City for social practice, and explored the way of helping the rural areas get rid of poverty by relying on the e-commerce platform. Mr. Sun Huaqiang, Vice Chairman of Trade Union, NPU, Captain of the poverty alleviation team in the village, as well as Mr. Zhang Long, a poverty alleviation staff, warmly received the practice team and gave detailed instructions.
In the investigation, the practice team learned that since the team was stationed in the village in January 2018, through a large number of visits to poor households, exchanges with village cadres and access to online sales channels for fruit and agricultural products, apples of poor households lack sale channels, resulting in apple's low price or even slow sales. In response to this situation, the team carefully planned “I have a tree for poverty alleviation” charity activities to adopt fruit trees, and contacted many parties to build an e-commerce platform to establish a brand for the apples in the village. Through all kinds of channels to export apple, the villagers really earn more money and get more benefits.
In October 2018, during the harvest season of apple, in order to enrich the "Student-Centered" culture of QMES, help classes to enhance the cohesiveness of the class, QMES purchased "Xianwang" Apple and held the "Date With Apple Culinary Competition", which received wide praise.

In the semi-final of “Date with Apple”, in line with the principle of “friendship first and competition second”, each team takes turns to use the oven. Their works are both creative and taste great!

Throughout the competition, students get to know each other better in the apple competition, deepen the friendship, and improve their hands-on ability, and take advantage of the significance of apple play to the extreme. In the "Date with Apple” Cooking Competition, under the guidance of communist organization Wisdom Wave Social Practice Team in college, not only the students in grade 2017 and 2018 actively participate in and feel the warmth of the "home of students", but also the foreign teachers from QMES are fully interactive, which helps them to further understand the social and economic status of Shaanxi. At the same time, there is multicultural collision, communication, spread of Chinese story and good voice of China.
