On the morning of October 13th, amidst the enthusiastic atmosphere of QMES Alumni Week, QMES welcomed three distinguished alumni representatives back to campus: Li Yiran, a doctoral student at Tsinghua University; Fan Junchen, a doctoral student at the University of Cambridge; and Xue Yuhe, a master’s student at the National University of Singapore. They engaged in an experience-sharing and discussion session with QMES students, focusing on topics such as postgraduate research opportunities, studying abroad, and innovation and entrepreneurship competitions.

Li Yiran provided a detailed analysis of the key stages and preparation points for the recommendation process for postgraduate study without examination, covering topics such as the preparation of preliminary materials, tips and strategies for summer camp applications, and essential points for written examinations and interviews. She emphasised the importance of effective career planning during undergraduate studies and, drawing on her own academic and research experiences at Tsinghua University, encouraged her junior peers to focus on building a solid foundation of knowledge and enhancing their overall competencies, urging them to boldly pursue opportunities for further study at top universities.

Fan Junchen provided a comprehensive explanation of the overall timeline for studying abroad applications, offering valuable advice to students interested in pursuing further studies overseas. He shared insights on preparing application materials, sourcing official information channels, and interviewing techniques, which proved to be immensely beneficial for the attendees. Additionally, he encouraged everyone to actively enhance their innovation and practical skills during their university years, to think proactively, to maintain strong convictions, and to pursue their dreams with courage.

Xue Yuhe shared her practical experiences from participating in research competitions during her university years, addressing various aspects such as project selection, team collaboration, and competition preparation. Her insights provided invaluable advice and guidance for students aspiring to engage in research competitions. Furthermore, she drew upon her application process for the National University of Singapore and her experiences studying abroad to encourage her junior peers to continually broaden their international perspectives, enhance their diverse developmental intentions, and actively apply for further study at world-class institutions.

The alumni sharing session not only helped students strengthen their understanding and awareness of recommendations for exemption from entrance examinations for postgraduate studies, overseas education, and innovation competitions but also provided them with valuable experiential references for their academic and career planning. QMES is committed to cultivating innovative talents with an international perspective, professional competitiveness, and comprehensive qualities. To date, graduates from four cohorts have pursued further studies at renowned institutions both domestically and internationally, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, and the National University of Singapore. In the future, QMES will continue to leverage the strengths of its outstanding alumni, serving as role models to inspire and assist more young students in striving for excellence and achieving remarkable lives.
