The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China stressed the strategy of “invigorating China through science and education and developing a strong workforce for the modernization drive”. This requires us to pay more attention to science education, especially at the basic education stage, and cultivate scientific and technological talents with creative and innovative capabilities, so as to instil an inexhaustible driving force for China's scientific and technological development. On the afternoon of April 18th, QMES and the Youth League Committee of NPU went to Sanxing Primary School and the Caojiamiao Community at Daminggong Street, Weiyang District, Xi 'an City to carry out the publicity. Secretary Cao Pei and Deputy Secretary Cao Yu of the Caojiamiao Community at Daminggong Street; Liu Chunli, Principal of Sanxing Primary School; Bai Yarong, Vice Principal of Sanxing Primary School; Dai Fuping, Secretary of the QMES Party Committee; Cheng Yin, Deputy Secretary of the QMES Party Committee; and Gao Yun, Director of the Organization Department of the QMES Youth League Committee and so on attended the event. Members of the Campus Talk of NPU and the volunteer service team “Clear Project” of QMES delivered theoretical and popular science presentations to the community and the primary school students. The activity was presided over by Liu Chunli.
Liu Chunli, on behalf of Sanxing Primary School, extended a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the teachers and students of NPU. Then, the development history, educational achievements and campus culture construction of the school were also introduced, followed by the theme, purpose and main content of the activity.
Dai Fuping expressed that young people were the future of our motherland and the hope of our nation, and they were the most imaginative and creative group, as well as the community was the basic foundation. He hoped that the students of NPU participating in the activity could give full play to their exemplary role, cherish the opportunity to go into the community, and guide the children to think more after listening to the report. He also hoped that the primary school students could have more communication with these college students and master scientific knowledge. It is expected that through this activity, the enthusiasm of primary school students to love science, learn science and use science will be inspired, and the seeds of pursuing science will be planted in their hearts.
Later, Dai Fuping and Cheng Yin awarded the Social Practice Base for University Students in the Caojiamiao Community at Daminggong Street and in Sanxing Primary School respectively. Cao Pei gave a speech of thanks, hoping that the activity was just a starting point, and the students of NPU could go into the community and the primary school more frequently, conduct more communication with the grassroots and make the best advantage of the bases.
Gan Su, a member of the Campus Talk of NPU, recalled the feelings of home and country of the students from the glorious history of the Communist Party of China. Chen Xinni used fireflies as a metaphor, "The fire of the fireflies can illuminate the wilderness", telling the story of the vigorous power of young people. Wang Tianyi told a trilogy about the growth of Chinese youth, encouraging young people to move forward on the road of faith and triumph.
The volunteer team provided knowledge about water resources for the students, calling on everyone to protect water resources. They introduced the development status of water resources in Qinling Mountains in detail, and passed on the values of being proud of saving and ashamed of wasting. At the same time, the volunteers displayed a simple water purification device model and vividly explained the principle of water purification, which stimulated the students' interest in science and exploration.
With the strong support of the Youth League Committee of NPU, QMES has always attached great importance to the cultivation of innovative practical ability of university students, and set up various platforms to provide opportunities for students, encouraging them to broaden their horizons out of school. Carrying out social practice activities can further enhance the sense of social responsibility and sense of mission of college students and promote their all-round development.
