At this wonderful moment of bidding farewell to the past and ushering the new, on behalf of the school leadership, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes to you all, as well as leaders and friends who care about the development of QMES. Wish you all a happy new year and that everything goes well!

In 2023, we united together and made great efforts to nourish the roots and forge the our soul with political education. QMES fully implemented Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Under the overall requirements of themed education, QMES organized all faculty members to participate in education activities in Zhaojin, Shaanxi Province and other places. Under the leadership of the QMES Party Committee, all teachers and students remained true to their original aspirations. With theoretical learning and practical research as the focal points, QMES always insisted the socialist orientation of Chinese-foreign cooperation in running school. Efforts also were made to earnestly fulfil the primary responsibility for building clean and honest Party conduct, solidly implement the responsibility system for ideological work, and strengthen the “dual responsibility in one position” of leading cadres. During this year, QMES has developed a total of 70 student Party members and provided training for 86 active individuals and 126 potential candidates for Party membership.

In 2023, we took multiple measures and focused on fostering virtue through education. QMES utilized and integrated various forces to participate in decision-making processes regarding strategic development and planning of the school, and promoting each office to deploy and arrange key works, so as to comprehensively improve the level of our Chinese-foreign cooperative education, teaching, and management and service of our teachers. During this year, one Shaanxi Provincial Education and Teaching Reform Project was approved; one Outstanding Prize for Teaching Achievement at NPU was won; one project was recommended for the application of the Outstanding Prize of Shaanxi Provincial Teaching Achievement. The school’s distinctive course “Linear Algebra” was selected as a national top-level undergraduate course. Additionally, QMES was honoured for the third time as an outstanding institution for Chinese-foreign cooperative education in Shaanxi Province, following its consecutive wins in 2020 and 2021. In addition, undergraduate students from QMES won six gold awards, two silver awards, and nine Shaanxi Provincial gold awards in the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition 2023 (CICSIC). In addition to competition awards, students also achieved outstanding results in various NPU evaluation activities.

In 2023, we complemented each other’s strengths and built great platforms for teachers and students. We strengthened the construction of the faculty team and deepened the comprehensive education of all staff members. Centred around the high-quality development action plan for talent work of NPU, QMES relied on the International Center for Teaching and Learning (ICTL) to develop a program to enhance English-medium instruction, ensuring the quality of classroom teaching. QMES organized 63 teachers to participate in the certification training by the UK Higher Education Agency at QMUL; 3 teachers took the English Medium Instruction course at Oxford University; 16 teachers went to foreign universities for exchange and seminars, including the University of Cambridge. Besides, Professor Dai Fuping, the Secretary of the School Party Committee, led a team of 12 young teachers to attend the “Teacher Qualification Certification” training course of higher education at QMUL. What’s more, in order to expand students’ international social networks and enhance their global competence, QMES organized 162 students to participate in oversea exchanges during the summer vocation, conducting research tasks at world-renowned universities, such as the University of Cambridge and QMUL in the UK and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

In 2023, we helped students to join hands with the world and set sail for their dreams. The lowest admission ranking for QMES significantly increased in 17 provinces and municipalities compared to last year, reaching new historical highs in 12 of them. Henan and Hebei provinces experienced an increase of over 3000 ranks, while Sichuan and Jiangsu provinces saw improvements of 2000-3000 ranks. In addition, we have implemented strategic planning to effectively guide our students’ pursuit of further education both at home and abroad. Among the graduates in 2023, 24% achieved first-class honour degrees from QMUL; 94 students was going to pursue further study at renowned domestic universities, such as Tsinghua University (4); 83 students embarked on further education abroad, with destinations including the University of Cambridge (3), Imperial College London (10), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (1), University College London (8), and the National University of Singapore (15). Notably, 44.6% of these universities ranked within the top 10 according to QS World University Rankings. The overall rate of graduates pursuing further study has exceeded 80%.

In 2024, QMES will persistently uphold the cultivation of students with an international perspective, adeptness in international regulations, and a solid foundation in natural sciences, specialized knowledge, and humanities. We aim to cultivate highly competitive and well-rounded individuals, capable of engaging in cross-border learning and work while possessing lifelong learning abilities. Our goal is to enhance the education quality and accelerate the process of internationalization in education. Looking ahead to the future, we will energetically pursue our education objectives with renewed vigour, elevate our international exchanges and cooperation to new heights with full confidence, and adopt a more professional and rigorous working style to promote NPU’s realization of “Double First-Class” initiative and the “127” goal. At the same time, we will contribute to the construction of a high-quality education system and add new momentum for national education development.
