On the evening of 26th August, a delegation including Fan Xiaoli, Dean of QMES; Dai Fuping, Secretary of the QMES Party Committee; Maria Romero-Gonzalez; Li Wang, Lecturer from QMUL; Wang Yongxin, Vice Dean of QMES; Cheng Yin, Deputy Secretary of the QMES Party Committee and Vice Dean; along with Liu Jia, Counsellor of the 2023 Class, and Wang Jinming, 2025 Counsellor, visited student accommodation to meet with first-year students arriving from across the country.

During the visit, QMES leadership spoke warmly with the new students, carefully inquiring about their transition to university life and their emotional well-being since enrolment. Particular attention was paid to living conditions, including the safety of accommodation and environmental hygiene. The academics also asked about the students’ experiences during military training, commending their perseverance and determination demonstrated throughout the exercises. They encouraged everyone to carry forward the sense of discipline and dedication cultivated during training into their future academic and personal lives.

Fan Xiaoli encouraged the new students to uphold firm ideals and convictions, deeply understand and practise NPU’s educational philosophy of the “Chief Engineer Culture”, and to “fasten the first button” of their university journey. Dai Fuping urged them to remain down-to-earth, dedicated to learning and action, and to strive towards becoming outstanding, innovative talents with both a global vision and a deep national commitment. Maria Romero-González also expressed her warm welcome and expectations, hoping that they would quickly adapt to the campus environment and embark on a rewarding university experience. In a thoughtful gesture, QMES presented each new student with a carefully prepared snack pack, allowing them to truly feel the warmth and care of the QMES community. The students enthusiastically shared their initial experiences and aspirations since arriving on campus, contributing to a cordial and engaging atmosphere.

The visit not only strengthened the bond between faculty and students but also enhanced the sense of belonging and identity among the newcomers. Many students expressed their determination to quickly adapt to their new environment and routines, engage actively in their studies, and strive to open a new chapter in life guided by the principle of “Learning to Serve the Country, Achieving through Perseverance”. QMES remains committed to its educational mission, focusing on supporting the holistic development of every student. Moving forward, the School will continue to prioritise students’ well-being and personal growth, empowering them to become a new generation capable of undertaking the great responsibility of national rejuvenation.
