On the afternoon of June 24th, QMES held the undergraduate graduation ceremony and the British degree awarding ceremony for 2022 Graduates at Chang’an Campus.
Colin Bailey, President of QMUL; Zhan Hao, Member of the Standing Committee of the NPU Party Committee and Vice President of NPU; Wang Wen, Vice Principal of QMUL and Vice Chair of JAC; Colin Grant, Vice Principal of QMUL; Li Jinshan, Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering and Member of JAC; Kong Jie, Dean of School of Foreign Studies and Former Member of JAC; Dai Fuping, Party Secretary of QMES and Member of JAC; Wang Jin, Deputy Director of Teaching Affairs Department; Chen Jun, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Office; Zhang Peng, Deputy Director of Finance Department; Xu Weixia, Deputy Secretary-General of NPU Education Foundation; and all the faculty and staff of QMES attended the graduation ceremony simultaneously in Xi’an and London. The ceremony was presided over by Fan Xiaoli, Dean of QMES.
First of all, Zhan Hao, on behalf of NPU, expressed his sincere congratulations and best wishes to the students who successfully completed their undergraduate study. He said that the students should embark on the new journey of comprehensively constructing a modern socialist country. He hoped that students can keep in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping’s expectations and uphold the NPU’s motto and spirit. The motto “By United Powers” of QMUL also guided everybody to embrace the spirit of cooperation. Finally, Zhan Hao put forward four pieces of advice to encourage all graduates, including enhancing political discrimination, promoting motivation of learning, improving creativity and developing global competence.
In his graduation speech, Colin Bailey said that the graduates have made the best advantage of higher education resources in both China and the UK through the joint efforts of QMUL and NPU. Both universities have been praised worldwide for their excellence in education and research. The graduates are exceptional talents, and QMUL will continue to help them advance in the years ahead.
Zhang Yuxiang, the representative of graduates, said that the time at QMES was an amazing journey. In the past four years, with the encouragement of families and teachers, students had been getting closer and closer to their goals, and have been given more space and opportunities. Meanwhile, thanks to the difficulties and setbacks, students have become stronger, more confident and more determined. Finally, she wished QMES a flourishing development and all graduates splendid prospects.
2022 Graduates performed well under the joint guidance of QMUL and NPU. Wei Chenyu won QMUL President Award; Yu Jieru won JRI Best Paper Award; Yao Lizheng and Li Yiyang won Best Progress Award; Li Tianyi won the first prize in IOM3 Youth Speech Competition. Kong Jie presented honorary certificates to the five outstanding graduates, giving full recognition of their achievements in studies.
At the teacher awarding session, Li Jinshan presented certificates of outstanding instructors and souvenirs to Zhuo Sifei, Zhao Tingkai and other five teachers, in order to thank them for their important contributions towards nurturing the Graduates of Class 2022.
Finally, Cheng Yin announced the name list and degree level of the graduates. Then QMES leaders awarded degree certificates and exclusive commemorative seals to the graduates.
According to Fan Xiaoli, each class of graduates had their own unforgettable experiences. The Class 2022 Graduates were of special significance to QMES. She hoped that every graduate can work hard, shoulder responsibilities, and live up to expectations of the people. NPU and QMUL will always pay close attention to students’ growth and provide the utmost support.
Since it was founded in 2016, QMES has always put students first, aiming to cultivate students with international vision, professional competence, comprehensive quality and lifelong study ability. Among the more than 200 qualified graduates, 91 students would study further at overseas prestigious universities. 83 students had entered first-class universities in China for further study. Some graduates had been recruited by well-known enterprises or provincial organizations.
QMES will strive to become a model of Sino-foreign cooperative educational institution with distinctive characteristics.
