On 20th October 2017, Prof. Wen Wang, Dean of School of Engineering and Materials Science, Ms. Anne Parry, Faculty Operating Officer, from Queen Mary University of London visited Queen Mary University of London Engineering School, NPU (JEI). With the company of Zhang Fuli, deputy director of the International Cooperation Department, NPU, Kong Jie, Dean of JEI and Chen Jun, Vice Dean of JEI, Prof. Wen Wang and Ms. Anne Parry gave a lecture about campus study and life to all JEI students of 2017 and visited JEI offices, students’ common room and Internet smart classrooms.
During the lecture to all JEI new students of 2017, Prof. Wen Wang demonstrated the gist of economy, culture and education in London, and the long history of Queen Mary. He also introduced his research work in the field of vascular endothelial cell and biomechanics. Ms. Anne Parry introduced many famous places and British cultural characteristics. She expected students to visit Queen Mary University in London to take academic exchange so that they could experience the unique cultural atmosphere in London and British characteristics.
In the interaction session, students asked Prof. Wang and Ms. Anne Parry a series of questions on how to adapt to the English teaching class, how to choose the direction of scientific research, and how to prepare to visit British. Prof. Wang answered students’ questions systematically from his own learning and research experience abroad. He emphasized that students had to grasp three key points: first, to learn how to learn; second, to be creative and third, to remain interested in learning. Prof. Wang encouraged students to take full advantage of high-quality educational resources from both QMUL and NPU. He also encouraged students to promote the ability of undertaking scientific research and reading academic literacy. Students should be interested in learning, and use scientific research creativity as motivation with reasonable learning method. By doing so, students can become all-round talents with international perspective, familiar with international regulations and be equipped with lifelong learning abilities.
Prof. Wang’s and Ms. Anne Parry’s presentations were instructive and interesting. They did not only stimulate students’ motivation and passion of learning, but also helped students to shape their career path under the background of Sino-foreign cooperative education.
During their visit in JEI, Dean Kong Jie introduced the current operation of JEI, students’ study and life to the Prof. Wang and Ms. Anne Parry in great detail. Afterwards, the guests came to the classroom ofLinear Algebra and talked with Chinese teacher teaching in English about the content of teaching and the teaching style. Also, they asked students about feedbacks from the course.
Prof. Wen Wang and Ms. Anne Parry’s visit will further strengthen the mutual friendship and promote the communication and cooperation in fields of teaching and others between the two institutions.
