The 15th meeting of the Student-Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) of QMES, NPU was successfully held on the evening of November 8th in the East Teaching Building. Cheng Yin, Vice Dean of the school and Director of the SSLC; Li Wang, Student Affairs Councilor and Co-Director of the SSLC; Faith Nightingale, Teaching Affairs Councilor; faculty representatives Deng Xinru, Agne Kocnevaite, Yamin Abdouni, as well as student representatives of each grade, attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Cheng Yin.
Cheng Yin first welcomed the arrival of the staff committee and student representatives. The minutes of the 14th Student-Staff Liaison Committee Meeting were collectively approved by all the attendees. Then, the student representatives from each grade actively participated in the discussion regarding the issues encountered during their studies and courses. Year 4 students Ye Yaowen and Yu Qifan expressed their views and suggestions on flipped classrooms, course offerings, and QMUL summer & winter schools. Sulafudin and Faith expressed that in order to ensure high-quality completion of graduation projects, the school has optimized and adjusted the course offerings. They encouraged everyone to actively participate in classroom activities and strive for ideal results. Regarding overseas exchange programs during the holidays, Li Wang enthusiastically invited students to participate in next year’s QMUL summer school program. Cheng Yin introduced the on-site exchange program at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva and other winter holiday overseas practical projects that will be conducted by other schools, hoping that students would actively participate, broaden their international perspectives, and enhance their global competence.
Year 3 representatives Jiang Jizhang and Li Yuanyi, as well as Year 2 representatives Zeng Zitian and Zhang Jiamin, provided feedback and discussed teaching equipment, the use of teaching platforms, classroom design, and interaction. Cheng Yin expressed that the school would actively seek assistance from relevant departments such as the Information Center to ensure the availability of supporting equipment and enhance classroom learning effectiveness. Yamin Abdouni emphasized the importance of classroom interaction and encouraged students to be courageous in making mistakes while actively communicating with teachers. Deng Xinru mentioned that Queen Mary side would continue to optimize teaching platforms like QMPlus and hoped that students could lay a solid foundation for subsequent professional course studies through practical operations in laboratory classes.
Year 1 representatives Wang Yibo and Zhang Renyuan provided feedback that the school teaching mode is innovative. Some students are still in the process of transitioning from high school to university learning methods and are gradually adapting to the learning approach of improving soft skills courses. Subsequently, Faith and Agne expressed their appreciation for receiving feedback from the students and stated that they would engage in in-depth discussions with other teachers regarding relevant reform measures to continuously optimize the teaching effectiveness of English classes.
Lastly, Li Wang gave a brief introduction to the QM Student Ambassador Program and its content for the spring semester of 2024. The attending students expressed their willingness to engage in deeper communication with the student ambassadors. Cheng Yin expressed gratitude to the faculty committee members and student representatives present at the meeting, fully acknowledging the achievements of this meeting. The school will carefully listen to student opinions and work together to meet their reasonable demands. The Student-Staff Liaison Committee will continue to serve as a bridge for communication between teachers and students, assisting and serving students, and creating broader development opportunities to promote the cultivation of internationally-oriented, multi-talented, and innovative individuals in the school.
