On the afternoon of June 29th, QMES held an online pre-departure safety training and send-off ceremony for the 2024 summer social practice activities. Attendees included Cheng Yin, Deputy Secretary of the QMES Party Committee, Huang Quanxiang, Director of the Student Affairs Office, Yang Fenping, Head of Student Work, Yong Siyu, Executive Chairman of the QMES Student Union, and all members of the social practice teams.
Yang Fenping provided training on various aspects, including safety education throughout all stages of practice, emergency plan development, funding policies, and news publicity. She emphasized that each practice team must adhere to the principle of safety first, conduct thorough preliminary research, and prepare contingency plans to avoid complacency and a sense of invincibility. Additionally, she stressed the importance of upholding the school spirit of “Solid foundation, diligent work ethic, modest demeanour, and pioneering innovation” during social practices to showcase the intelligence and grace of NPU students.
Yong Siyu, the executive chairman of QMES Student Union, explained the process for purchasing personal accident insurance for team members to ensure that the personal and property safety of teachers and students is fully guaranteed during the practice.
Huang Quanzhang advised students to properly manage and safeguard all relevant receipts and documentation to ensure the smooth completion of their practice activities. He urged them to make full use of the opportunities and platforms provided by social practice, to learn, reflect, and broaden their perspectives through these experiences. He also highlighted the importance of demonstrating the responsibility and strength of the youth in the new era.
In her concluding remarks, Cheng Yin expressed gratitude for the dedication and efforts of all the practice team members. She encouraged them to cherish this practice opportunity, further immerse themselves in understanding national conditions, social circumstances, and public sentiments, and deepen their comprehension of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Cheng Yin emphasized the importance of cultivating the qualities of a “Chief Engineer”—being proficient, systematic, practical, and responsible—and striving to become proactive and responsible young professionals of the new era. She concluded by wishing the QMES summer practice activities great success.
