To safeguard student rights and ensure effective channels for feedback and grievances, on 10th March, the QMES Student Union held the Student Rights Symposium and Department-Class Joint Meeting for the Spring Term of the 2024-2025 academic year. The meeting was attended by the Director of the NPU Student Union’s Rights Service Centre, QMES Student Union’s rights staff, and student representatives from various classes. The session was chaired by Che Xuanming, the Director of the QMES Student Union’s Rights Service Centre.

Firstly, Geng Tao, a volunteer representative from the QMES Student Union Rights Service Centre, provided a comprehensive introduction to the channels for student rights feedback. He explained several initiatives introduced by NPU to safeguard student rights, including the university-wide “Rights Feedback QR Code”, regularly distributed online rights surveys, and the usage of the “one-stop” platform for addressing grievances. He emphasised that by integrating both online and offline feedback channels, NPU ensures that every student’s concerns are addressed and responded to effectively.

Subsequently, Che Xuanming summarised the achievements of the previous semester’s student rights work in three key areas: the optimisation of the library environment, the results of the rights survey, and the implementation of convenient facilities. Through multiple surveys, the QMES Student Union gathered a total of 27 student suggestions, which contributed to addressing key concerns such as the improvement of library facilities, hot water supply in the bathrooms, and the diversification of meal options in the canteen. Additionally, shared printers were installed in the teaching buildings and dormitory areas, while milk product refrigeration cabinets were introduced at two locations in Haitianyuan. These initiatives received widespread praise from students.

Finally, the student representatives actively participated in the discussion. Zhang Renyuan, a staff member from the NPU Student Union Rights Service Centre, addressed questions and provided clarifications. Students offered numerous practical suggestions regarding the optimisation of the academic learning environment, the implementation of convenient facilities, and the establishment of diverse online and offline rights feedback platforms. The staff responded to each point and promptly noted areas for improvement and future directions for their work.

The student forum on rights between departments and classes further strengthened students’ awareness of their rights and clarified the core work objectives centred around a “demand-driven, efficient service” approach. The QMES Student Union will continue to listen attentively to students’ voices, reinforce the network of rights services, and inject greater vitality into the creation of a harmonious campus.
