QMES Achieved Outstanding Results at the 59th NPU Sports Meeting and the 22nd Sports Culture Festival

On April 25th, the 59th NPU Sports Meeting and the 22nd Sports Culture Festival were grandly opened at the athletics field of the Chang’an Campus. Over a hundred teachers and students from QMES actively participated in the event, achieving excellent results in various events, demonstrating the spirit of unity, cooperation, and determination of QMES students.

On the morning of the 25th, the Sports Meeting commenced with the stirring “March of the Athletes”. A contingent of 60 students from QMES entered the competition venue, dressed in uniform attire, exuding energy and confidence. In the formation, the students held models of two iconic landmarks—the London Big Ben and the Xi’an Giant Wild Goose Pagoda—both representing the cultural heritage of China and the UK. The “Friendship Bridge” connecting these landmarks was uniquely designed, symbolising the strong bond of Chinese-British educational cooperation and the profound integration of Eastern and Western cultures. This display vividly embodied the international character of QMES and became one of the most culturally meaningful and creative highlights of the opening ceremony.

The resilience and vitality of life unfolded on the stage of youth. Over the following two days of competition, QMES athletes showed remarkable determination and perseverance, with a series of impressive victories.

In the event on the 25th, the QMES aerobics team stood out from the intense competition with their enthusiasm, exceptional skills, and outstanding teamwork, ultimately winning the championship. During the competition, the team members delivered precise, synchronized movements, creative formation changes, and impressive high-difficulty techniques, earning unanimous praise from both the audience and the judges. Their performance not only showcased the strength and beauty of aerobics but also served as a tribute to the unity and self-transcendence of the QMES students, a true anthem of youth.

On the athletics field, the QMES women’s team achieved an impressive eighth-place finish in the overall standings. Among the highlights, the women’s 4×100m relay team displayed excellent coordination and secured fifth place with a stellar performance. In the field events, Zhang Zihan excelled in the women’s long jump, winning the bronze medal. In the track events, Yang Yuren achieved a remarkable third place in the women’s 400m race, while Shi Yuqing finished fifth in the women’s 400m hurdles. Wang Zihuan reached the top six in the women’s 100m sprint, and Wang Haochen and Lv Jiaqi both secured ninth place in the men’s 110m hurdles and 1500m events, respectively. Behind these outstanding results lies the athletes’ relentless dedication through seasons of rigorous training, reflecting their perseverance and determination to face challenges and strive for excellence on the competition stage.

In the swimming events, Zhang Mochun and Geng Tao secured fourth and seventh place, respectively, in the men's breaststroke. Furthermore, in the 4×50m mixed relay race, the QMES team achieved a commendable eighth-place finish.

This year, QMES has maintained its strong momentum in team sports. Both the basketball and tennis teams secured third place in their respective events, while the men’s volleyball team achieved a commendable seventh place. The rugby team successfully reached the quarter-finals, and the table tennis, badminton, and football teams all made it to the round of sixteen. The athletes showcased their sweat and determination on the field, demonstrating the captivating charm of competitive sports through their exceptional skills and unwavering spirit of perseverance.

In the traditional wrestling event, Liu Xu delivered an outstanding performance and ultimately achieved an excellent fifth-place finish.

In the rope skipping competition, QMES secured fifth place in the team standings. Among the individual events, the “8” figure long rope team claimed second place, while the collective long rope jump team finished fifth. Additionally, both the individual speed skipping and the 4×30-second mixed relay events secured seventh place.

In the Staff Fun Sports Meeting, the QMES Union Chairman, Wu Aijing, led a team of 13 staff members from QMES to actively participate. The atmosphere at the competition was lively and full of excitement. In the swimming events, Ms. Ma Huili secured seventh place in the women’s staff breaststroke category. On the athletics track, Ms. Wang Ruixuan delivered an outstanding performance, winning the silver medal in the women’s staff shot put event.

The sweat on the track bears witness to the hard work and determination, while the smiles on the podium capture the essence of glory. This sports event was not merely a competitive gathering, but also a stage for challenging limits and showcasing individual potential. The athletes encouraged one another, striving for excellence, and earned both honours and friendships. With their speed and strength, they embodied the fearlessness of youth, while their perseverance and effort marked their shining moments. At the same time, they breathed new life and vitality into the campus cultural scene. All faculty and students of QMES will channel this renewed spirit and unwavering determination into their academic and professional pursuits, continuing to write a vibrant and brilliant new chapter in the development of all endeavours.
