On the morning of May 9th, the Fifth Student Representatives’ Conference of QMES was successfully held at the Chang’an campus. The meeting reviewed and discussed the “Work Report of the Fourth QMES Student Union” and the “Proposal Report of the Fifth Student Representatives’ Conference”. The resolution on the “QMES Student Union Organisational Charter” was also approved. Additionally, new members of the Student Union Praesidium and permanent representatives were elected. The conference was attended by Dai Fuping, Secretary of the QMES Party Committee and Vice Dean; Cheng Yin, Deputy Secretary of the QMES Party Committee; Yang Fenping, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of QMES; Ma Zhiheng, Executive President of the NPU Student Union; and representatives from QMES undergraduate student organisations. Yang Liu, a member of the Praesidium of the Fourth Student Union, chaired the conference.

The conference began with the resounding anthem of national anthem. Ma Zhiheng, Executive President of the NPU Student Union, extended his heartfelt congratulations on the outstanding achievements of the QMES Student Union. He expressed his hope that this conference would serve as a starting point for collaboration with the NPU Student Union and other partner institutions, working together to forge ahead. He emphasised the collective effort to provide students with a platform to showcase their talents and enhance their overall capabilities.

Building on the past and forging ahead, Dai Fuping emphasised during the opening ceremony that this year marks the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the 106th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement, and the commencement of the 15th Five-Year Plan. Standing at these significant historical milestones, he stated that student representatives and student organisations at all levels must deeply recognise the historical mission and responsibility they bear. He expressed his hope that students would keep the “great matters of the nation” in mind, and their dedication to the country, remain true to their original aspirations. He urged them to refine their skills, push boundaries through innovation, and continue striving for excellence in service to their fellow students. Finally, he encouraged student representatives to actively play a pioneering role, align themselves with the times, and march forward alongside the nation. He called upon them to inspire the youth to rise to the challenge and take responsibility in the new journey of achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Yong Siyu, the Executive President of the 4th Student Union of QMES, delivered a report on behalf of the 4th Student Union to the conference, providing an analysis and outlook on the future work and development of the 5th Student Union of QMES.

During the election session, through a series of rigorous and standardised procedures, the conference elected the 5th Presidium of the QMES Student Union, composed of Che Xuanming, Xu Yang, and Liu Yuluan, along with the 5th Standing Representatives of the QMES Undergraduate Students, consisting of Wang Yuze, Wang Tianxin, Wen Yichang, Li Mengguo, Zhang Renyuan, Ban Ruiyang, Dai Yanhua, and Qu Yi.

At the closing ceremony of the conference, Yang Fenping extended her congratulations on the successful convening of the conference and to the newly elected members of the Praesidium and Standing Representatives. She emphasised that the Student Union, as a key organisation for the student body, should unite and lead the students in strengthening their ideals and beliefs, listening to the Party and following its guidance. She urged the Union to effectively serve as a bridge, providing essential support for academic assistance, career guidance, and other student services, while striving to align its work with the development of both the university and its various faculties.

At the closing ceremony, Cheng Yin pointed out that young students in the new era bear new missions and opportunities. She expressed her hope that students would take the spirit of serving the country through science and technology as their foundation, embody their original aspirations through responsibility and commitment, and closely align their ideals with the strategic needs of the nation, using technological innovation to contribute to national development. She urged students to build strong expertise as their cornerstone, to scale new heights through interdisciplinary integration, to solidify their academic foundation through the diverse China-UK training system, broaden their horizons, and tackle critical challenges. Furthermore, she encouraged them to take the era’s mission as their guiding principle, to make their mark on the global stage, cultivate critical thinking, contribute global wisdom, and showcase the youthful vitality of China’s young generation.

Following the formal conclusion of the conference, QMES held its first meeting of the Fifth Standing Representatives and the first meeting of the Student Union Praesidium. The meeting further clarified the future direction and tasks of the Student Union. The newly elected members of the Praesidium and Standing Representatives expressed their commitment to providing higher-quality services and platforms for the student body. They vowed to demonstrate the spirit of youth through concrete actions and work together to write a new chapter for the QMES Student Union.

Upholding our original aspirations and embracing our responsibilities, we join hands to embark on a new journey. Under the warm guidance of the QMES Party Committee and the thoughtful leadership of the NPU and QMES Youth League Committees, the newly elected Student Union will undoubtedly take on the important duties entrusted by the era. With a fresh outlook and proactive actions, we will contribute the youthful strength of the student body to support NPU’s goal of nurturing “Chief Engineer-type” talents.
