On the afternoon of March 21st, Xue Yuxue, former National Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Afghanistan and Indonesia, and Vice Chair of the Academic Committee of the International Competency Development Professional Committee of the China Education Development Strategy Association, was invited to deliver a lecture at NPU’s Ao’xiang Distinguished Experts Lecture Series. The lecture, titled “An Overview of International Organisations and Their Talent Demands”, was held in Room 210 of the East Teaching Building A on the Chang’an campus. The event was organised by the Student Affairs Department of the NPU Party Committee and hosted by QMES, with students from the 2023 and 2024 cohorts in attendance. The lecture was chaired by Dai Fuping, Secretary of the QMES Party Committee.

During the lecture, Xue Yuxue provided an in-depth and systematic explanation of the concept, structure, and components of international organisations. She also discussed the current status and development trends of the United Nations and its associated international bodies, giving students a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the nature and role of international organisations. Xue Yuxue then explained the United Nations’ definition of global competency and briefly outlined the skills required for working in international organisations and their talent demands. She encouraged the students, expressing optimism for their future, and urged them to actively participate in internships with international organisations, to step onto the global stage, contribute Chinese wisdom to global governance, and showcase the spirit of Chinese youth on the world stage.

After the lecture, students actively engaged with Professor Xue, who conducted an enthusiastic discussion and exchange on topics such as the new dynamics and challenges of global governance.

The lecture further deepened students’ understanding and knowledge of international organisations, enhanced their global perspective and international awareness, and stimulated their initiative to strengthen professional expertise, comprehensive qualities, capabilities in international affairs, and adaptability to working in multicultural environments. This effectively supports the QMES programme in cultivating versatile and innovative talents with global competence.
