To help students understand the application process for top UK universities, master application strategies and techniques, and plan their career paths, the QMES “Oxford and Cambridge Study Abroad Application Experience Sharing Session” was successfully held on the evening of April 16th at the 410 Lecture Hall of the East Teaching Building A. The session invited Luo Kangning, a 2021 student from Oxford University, and Yang Rui and Cai Zicheng, who received offers from Cambridge University, to share their personal experiences.

During the session, the three students shared their experiences from different perspectives, highlighting their strengths and characteristics. Luo Kangning, drawing from his own experience applying to Oxford University, helped the underclassmen outline the UK study application timeline. He focused particularly on the importance of networking and interview techniques, encouraging students to take bold steps and proactively establish connections with professors in advance. Yang Rui introduced the specific process for applying to the master’s program at Cambridge University, detailing the required materials and important admission-related considerations. He emphasised the significance of participating in summer overseas academic programs, urging students to actively seek opportunities to enhance their academic background and research skills. Cai Zicheng pointed out that while excellent academic performance is undoubtedly essential, a well-crafted Personal Statement (PS) that fully showcases one’s unique qualities and academic passion is equally indispensable. Furthermore, he shared exclusive tips from his own experience applying for research-based master’s programs.

After the session, the speakers engaged in interactive discussions with the students, providing detailed and practical answers to various questions regarding the study abroad application process, choosing a major, applying for scholarships, and more. Their insights helped to alleviate any concerns the students had.

The Oxford and Cambridge study abroad experience sharing session, by allowing students to listen to the speakers’ success stories and valuable advice, has increased their enthusiasm for pursuing further education abroad. It has also provided them with invaluable insights and practical application strategies. With the inspiration gained from this session, it is believed that more students will be able to clarify their goals early, strengthen their determination, and continue to refine their career plans.
