On June 21, QMES held the undergraduate graduation ceremony and the British degree awarding ceremony for the Class of 2024 at its Chang’an Campus. Song Baowei, President of NPU, and Colin Bailey, President of QMUL, attended and delivered speeches. The ceremony was also attended by Zhan Hao, Vice President of NPU, Wang Wen, Vice President of QMUL, heads of relevant departments from both universities, the entire graduating 2024 class of QMES, and their families and friends, who gathered to witness this significant occasion. The event was hosted by Fan Xiaoli, Dean of QMES.
On behalf of the NPU Party Committee Secretary Li Yanrong and all the faculty and students, Song Baowei extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the graduates for completing their undergraduate studies. He also expressed gratitude to the teachers and parents from both NPU and QMUL who have long supported the development of QMES and the growth of its students. He noted that over the past four years, students have witnessed the collaborative progress between the two universities while continually pushing their boundaries and striving for excellence, achieving outstanding results in various activities. As parting advice, he offered three key hopes for the graduates: first, to aim high and have a global perspective, navigating the currents of the times with determination; second, to diligently study and innovate, striving for excellence through grounded effort; and third, to broaden their horizons and embrace the future with confidence on the global stage. Song Baowei warmly added, “Wherever you go, your alma mater will always be your most steadfast support and warmest haven. We hope you will continue to care for and support the development of your alma mater, and we look forward to welcoming you back whenever the opportunity arises.”
Colin Bailey expressed his great pleasure at being present to celebrate the successful graduation with the students and extended his gratitude to all faculty, staff, and family members of QMES. He highlighted the two institutions' exceptional educational and research strengths, which are widely recognised globally. He noted that graduates of QMES possess invaluable interdisciplinary skills and encouraged them to seize the opportunities of the current era. Bailey urged the graduates to make full use of their engineering knowledge and international perspective to contribute positively to global economic and social development.
Li Fengyuan, representing all graduates, expressed gratitude towards their alma mater, mentors, family, and friends for their dedicated nurturing. He mentioned that through four years of international education, study, and practical exchanges, his cross-cultural communication skills and global perspective have continuously improved. He pledged to remain true to his original aspirations and to contribute significantly in fields where the nation required it, thereby crafting an even more splendid chapter in his life.
Thanks to the joint efforts of the two institutions, the Class of 2024 graduates have excelled. Wang Wen awarded the QMUL Principal’s Awards to Chen Shaoqian, Yin Yuehao, Ye Yuanming, and Jiang Zixian. Kong Jie, Director of the International Cooperation Office at NPU, presented the Best Paper Awards to Sun Yuyao and Li Fengyuan, and the Best Progress Award to Zhang Zhiwei. Additionally, Wang Haipeng, Director of the Undergraduate Academic Affairs Department, and She Leilei, Secretary of the NPU Youth League Committee, awarded the Outstanding Graduate Certificates to 33 students, including Xue Longqi, Yang Zihan, and Li Hao, congratulating them on their exceptional academic achievements.
As a gesture of deep affection for their alma mater, the graduating representatives presented a carefully crafted scroll featuring photographs and an outstanding poster of the entire graduating class. Song Baowei and Colin Bailey received the gift on behalf of both institutions. Meanwhile, the graduating representatives extended their sincerest wishes to their respected teachers, with the class tutors, year coordinators, and administrative staff accepting the flowers presented by the students.

Song Baowei, Colin Bailey, Fan Xiaoli, and Maria Romero-Gonzalez jointly presented the degree certificates and performed the hooding ceremony for the Class of 2024. Additionally, Colin Bailey awarded the British degree certificates and conducted the hooding for the double-master degree graduates.
It is reported that among the over 200 graduates of QMES’s Class of 2024, 82 will pursue further studies at world-renowned institutions such as the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and Imperial College London. Another 88 graduates will continue their education at prestigious domestic universities including Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Additionally, some graduates will enter the workforce, either embarking on entrepreneurial ventures or securing employment, and are expected to make significant contributions in key national industries and sectors in the future.
