From July 9 to July 11, a delegation of 12, led by Dai Fping, Secretary of the QMES Party Committee, and Cheng Yin, Deputy Secretary of the QMES Party Committee, visited Shenyang as part of the “Thousands of Students in National Defence” summer social practice programme. The visit aimed to enhance exchange and cooperation with key national defence enterprises and institutions and to encourage more outstanding students to pursue careers in the military and defence sectors.
On the morning of July 10th, QMES faculty and students visited the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation’s Aviation Expo Park. Under the guidance of a tour leader, they explored various exhibits, including the J-15 model, holographic projections, and sections dedicated to the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning, ejection seats, and onboard equipment. The visit provided a comprehensive understanding of aerospace science and technology while offering insight into the rich cultural heritage and remarkable development of Shenyang Aircraft Corporation. Following the tour, the group was allowed to observe the production site, witnessing the meticulous attitude and dedication of aerospace technology professionals. Additionally, Dai Fuping presented a plaque to the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation’s Human Resources Department, officially designating it as an “NPU Student Social Practice Base”. This recognition aims to foster future collaboration in talent development, student internships, and practical training.
An exchange meeting was held between QMES faculty and students and Shenyang Aircraft Corporation. Wu Xiaoyu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee at the Titanium Alloy Processing Centre and alumnus of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at NPU, and Wang Chenrui, R&D Engineer at the Precision Manufacturing Research Institute of the Innovation Research Institute and also an alumnus of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at NPU, shared their insights from their time at NPU and their experiences of growth and development after joining Shenyang Aircraft Corporation. Students actively asked questions about their studies in materials science, research, and career planning. The alumni addressed these queries, creating an engaging atmosphere and inspiring students.
The QMES faculty and students also visited the AVIC Shenyang Aircraft Design Institute (601 Institute) for a tour and exchange. Led by a guide, the group gained a deep appreciation for the advancements and developments in aerospace technology at the Shenyang Aerospace Museum. During the seminar, Zou Longfei, Deputy Director of the Research Talent Capability Centre, provided a detailed introduction to the institute’s history, research breakthroughs, talent recruitment policies, and development status. Liu Fangliang, Deputy Director of the UAV Department at the 601 Institute and an NPU alumnus shared her academic and professional growth experiences. Students engaged in a dialogue with her regarding innovation competition guidance and personal career planning. Dai Fuping presented a plaque to the 601 Institute, designating it as an “NPU Student Social Practice Base”. This initiative aims to establish a regular collaboration mechanism between the two institutions, focusing on practical cooperation in areas such as joint innovation, student internships, and guidance on innovation and entrepreneurship. The partnership seeks to leverage the institute’s strengths in engineering practice and technological innovation to support the talent development of NPU.
To further harness the role of party-building guidance and educate students in continuing the Red Gene while rallying collective effort, faculty and students visited the September 18th Historical Museum and the Korean Martyr Cemetery for patriotic education. Through touching historical remnants and witnessing dramatic changes, students gained an understanding and appreciation of the revolutionary spirit and patriotism of the martyrs who sacrificed and fought bravely. This experience evoked profound respect and remembrance for the heroes. Participants expressed their commitment to remembering history and never forgetting national humiliation. They vowed to transform their patriotism into practical actions, focusing on developing the qualities of a “Chief Engineer” — modest, pragmatic, inclusive, and dedicated to national service. They aspire to become pioneers of the times and strive for outstanding achievements in anticipation of the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party.
The “Thousands of Students Entering National Defense” summer practice programme is a key initiative by QMES to expand employment opportunities and implement the training of “Chief Engineer” talent. This programme provides a valuable platform for QMES faculty and students to gain a deeper understanding of major national defence institutions. It aims to inspire more young individuals to solidify their ideals and actively engage in key national industries and sectors, contributing their youthful energy to the realisation of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the Chinese Dream.
