To assist the Class of 2025 in gaining a deeper understanding of NPU’s history and traditions and experiencing firsthand the inspirational “Chief Engineer Education Culture,” QMES has recently launched a series of orientation activities for its first-year students, equipping them to make a smooth transition into campus life, set clear academic objectives, and embark on a new life journey.

Lecture on “Carry Forward Loyalty, Integrity, Courage, and Perseverance”:

Keeping the NPU Spirit Alive to Inspire Young Generations

On the afternoon of September 11, QMES invited Professor Li Enpu, a senior lecturer from the Committee for the Care of the Next Generation, to deliver a special lecture titled “Carry Forward Loyalty, Integrity, Courage, and Perseverance” to all first-year students of the Class of 2025. Drawing on his extensive knowledge and rich life experience, Professor Li Enpu guided the audience through NPU’s century-long history, retracing the glorious journey of the university’s “three founding roots” and illuminating the core spirit of the university motto, “Loyalty, Integrity, Courage, and Perseverance”. He also highlighted the profound meaning of the university’s guiding ethos of “Strong Preparation, Diligent Effort, Practical Attitude, and Creative Innovation”. Professor Li Enpu urged students to make the most of their university years, take outstanding alumni as role models, embody the motto in their daily lives, and align their personal aspirations with national needs to contribute their youth, wisdom, and strength to the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation.

Throughout the lecture, students were immersed in NPU’s rich heritage, responding with repeated rounds of applause to the vivid storytelling.

From Here to the World:

First Lesson for the Class of 2025

On the afternoon of September 11, Dai Fuping, Secretary of the QMES Party Committee, delivered the first lecture of the new academic year to the Class of 2025 under the theme “Rooted in QMES, Embracing the World: Becoming Youth with Both National Commitment and Global Vision in the New Era.” Using a vivid comparison of the “A and B Sides of University Life,” Dai Fuping guided students to develop a clear understanding of campus life and urged them to map out their personal growth through in-depth exploration of character, interests, abilities, and values. Furthermore, he highlighted inspiring stories of outstanding alumni and explained the core spirit behind the “NPU Phenomenon”, marked by graduates’ readiness to serve, resolve to stay, and ability to excel in their posts, to encourage students to integrate their personal aspirations into the broader context of national development.

Dai Fuping expressed earnest expectations for the newcomers: they should think critically and cultivate lifelong learning mindset; look to exceptional alumni as role models in their pursuit of excellence; maintain physical and mental well-being with a positive attitude; and build perseverance and resilience. He stressed that the school provides strong support for every student’s development through a comprehensive undergraduate tutorial system, international exchange platforms, and a full range of resources. Concluding his address, Dai Fuping urged the Class of 2025 to hold firm to their ideals, treasure their university years, shoulder the responsibilities of the times, and strive to grow into innovative talents with deep patriotism and a global perspective.

Orientation Talk on Mental Well-Being:

Nurturing Minds & Fostering Growth

To strengthen mental-health awareness among the Class of 2025 and help students adjust to university life with a positive attitude, QMES hosted an orientation talk on mental well-being, led by Zhang Qinglin from the NPU hospital.

The session focused on common psychological issues and strategies for adapting to university life. Zhang Qinglin first introduced campus counselling services, appointment procedures, and mental health assessment scales, then discussed ways to address psychological problems, and highlighted how such issues can develop over time. He encouraged students to adopt timely and effective strategies tailored to their individual needs to manage their emotions, thereby laying a solid foundation for their future development.

Participants found the lecture highly beneficial and expressed their intention to pay closer attention to their own mental well-being. The Student Mental Health Centre will continue to provide services and promote mental health education to help students settle more smoothly into campus life.

First Lesson on Safety Education:

Police-School Partnership Strengthens Campus Security

To strengthen safety awareness and self-protection skills among the Class of 2025, QMES held a special lecture titled “First Lesson on Safety Education” on the afternoon of September 11. The session was jointly delivered by Wang Jinming, counsellor for the Class of 2025, and Yang Guang, Police Technical Supervisor (Level 1) from the Beilin Branch of the Xi’an Public Security Bureau. They gave a systematic briefing on two key topics: overall campus safety and the prevention of telecom and online fraud. It offered all new students a detailed and highly practical “required course” on safety knowledge aimed at reinforcing campus security and safeguarding students’ well-being.

Wang Jinming delivered a comprehensive lecture based on Key Points of Safety Education in Higher Education Institutions (2025), tailoring the content to the realities of university life. He covered essential aspects such as fostering safety awareness, cultivating a sense of precaution, and enhancing preventive measures. The session addressed multiple dimensions of safety, including dormitory safety, public space safety, personal safety, fire prevention, traffic safety, telecom fraud prevention, and laboratory safety. Real-life cautionary cases were used to emphasise the critical importance of maintaining constant vigilance.

Yang Guang delivered a professional and case-rich anti-fraud lecture to all new students under the theme “Building Strong Information Security Defences and Staying Away from Telecom and Online Fraud”. He began by introducing prevalent types of telecom and online scams, with a particular focus on schemes commonly targeting university students. The session provided a detailed analysis of the technical procedures used by fraudsters, equipping students with practical knowledge to enhance their ability to identify and respond to online threats.

Police and the university work hand in hand to strengthen campus safety. This first lesson on safety education helped students build a robust and all-around defence against fraud, covering both technical knowledge and awareness. Students listened attentively and engaged actively, creating a lively atmosphere. QMES remains committed to layered accountability for safety and ensuring a secure, stable, and harmonious campus environment for both faculty and students.
